Ms. Justa Leaty, age 73, died at JFK Hospital in Edison, NJ on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.

Born March 23, 1941, in Falla, Cuba, she arrived from Cuba in April 1966 and lived in Newark and Roselle Park, NJ later settling in Plainfield, NJ in 1971. She attended the Cuban School System earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She began her career as an elementary school teacher and later migrated to United States where she became a NJ Licensed Realtor and Entrepreneur. Justa co-owned several businesses with her late husband Ernesto Leaty and son Eduardo Leaty and was well known in the Plainfield Community and surrounding towns. She ended her career as a Real Estate Agent for ERA Reed Realty.

She was a lifetime member of the Jehovah Witnesses Organization serving in numerous congregations in Cuba and New Jersey. Sister Leaty was devoted to her faith and helped pioneer other Spanish speaking congregations in Plainfield, New Brunswick, and Perth Amboy. She was also a pillar for her spiritual brothers and sisters due to her vast biblical knowledge. Justa was a devoted wife, mother and the matriarch of the Leaty Family. She was a kindhearted and strong willed woman whose untimely death has left an impact not only to her family but also many friends, colleagues and congregation members.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her sons, Ernesto J. Leaty (Mara), Ricardo Leaty (Yudelca), daughter Marilyn Leaty-Nieves (Samuel), daughter-in-law Margie Leaty, 12 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren along with a host of extended family in New Jersey, Florida and Cuba. Justa Leaty was preceded in death by her beloved and sorely missed husband, Ernesto A. Leaty and son Eduardo A. Leaty.
