Kathryn "Kay" Appleby Blonsky

Toms River - Kathryn "Kay"Appleby Blonsky passed away on October 2, 2018. Kay was 90 years old.

She lived her childhood in South River and Seaside Park and her later years in Milltown, Morristownship, Monroetownship and Toms River.

Kay received her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from the New Jersey College for Women now Douglass College. She was both a Spanish and English teacher for many years in Milltown and then Randolph, New Jersey.

She was a member of the Red Hats, Jersey Blue Chapter of the Daughter of the American Revolution and one of the longest tenured members of the Order of the Eastern Star. Kay was involved as a volunteer for many worthwhile organizations including the Girls and Boy Scouts, Auxiliary Board of Directors for Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, Douglass College Archives and the Board of Trustees for the Monroe Library.

Her husband George, her son George Jr., and his wife LeeAnn predeceased her. Surviving are two sons Gary, of Little Rock Arkansas, Doug of New York City and a daughter Kitty Melfi , of Seaside Park and their spouses Tony, Mai and Dan. Kay is also survived by three beloved granddaughters Erica and Michelle of Southern Pines, North Carolina and Danielle of Madison Wisconsin. Kay's seven brothers and two sisters predeceased her but she is survived by her, sisters-in-laws Kathy, Carol and Marge , many nieces and nephews, including her God Son Jeff Appleby who visited her often with Coke and Dum Dum lollipops , and her two dearest friends NeNe Speldoes and Peggy Zullinger.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Union Church, Seaside Park, NJ Saturday October 13 at 10:00am followed by her burial at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan and repast at the Battleground Country Club also in Manalapan.

Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 809 Central Ave., Seaside Park, NJ, is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family asks you honor Kay by making a contribution to the Applewood Floor at Holiday Care Center, 4 Plaza Road, Toms River, New Jersey, 08757 in care of Bob Peluso, Director of Admissions.
