Liberta "Bert" Gartland

South Plainfield - Liberta "Bert" (Mollo) Gartland, 88, died on Sunday, October 28, 2018 in the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home at Menlo Park in Edison.

Born and raised in Plainfield, Bert is a graduate of Plainfield High School. She also resided in Dunellen before settling in South Plainfield in the early 1960's.

She worked as a cafeteria manager for Sacred Heart School but often throughout her career, Bert was a homemaker raising her children. Later in life, Bert could be found "doting" over her grandchildren. Liberta enjoyed baking and crafting various items for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed making her Christmas items.

A long time communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield, Bert was also a member of their choir and Altar Rosary Society.

She is predeceased by her husband; Timothy J. Gartland who died in 2003, her son; Timothy Jr., who died in 1978; parents, Louis and Lousie Mollo and sister; Raffela "Rae" Harvey.

Surviving are six children; Karen Piersanti (Michael) of South Plainfiled, Susan Bolton (Harold) of North Plainfield, Debra Gartland of Oklahoma, Janice Baratta (Severino) of Old Bridge, Joanna Gibbons (Edward) of Edison and Richard (Karen Keelty) of Scotch Plains and a brother; Thomas Mollo of Naples, Fl.

She will also be missed by her twelve grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 9AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield at 10AM.

Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.

Family and friends may attend visitation on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 4-8PM in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bert's memory to either the Veterans Memorial Home, 132 Evergreen Road Edison NJ or Caring Hospice of Central New Jersey, 1090 Kings Georges Post Road #703, Edison NJ.
