Louise Rsm Obituary
Mays Landing - Sister Louise Gorka, RSM formerly Sister Mary Paulita, age 87 of Mays Landing, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Atlantic City Hospital. Born in South Amboy, she had lived in Sayreville before she entered the Sisters of Mercy religious life on September 24, 1952. The people she touched, healed, encouraged, loved, and supported have meaning in their lives and were changed for the better. Sister Louise ministered in St. Nicholas School in Atlantic City, St. Mary High School in Perth Amboy, Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, and Phillipsburg Catholic High School. Following her teaching career, Sister Louise felt called to Parish Ministry at Holy Family in Union Beach. After 14 years at Holy Family, Sister Louise and Sister Peggy Noone founded The Gathering Place, an adult education and spiritual retreat center in Middletown, NJ. All of these ministries were permeated with music, which was an integral part of her life. This great woman is so deserving of a Heavenly welcome. All those whose lives she touched are better for having known her for any length of time.
She is predeceased by her parents Louis and Stella Gorka and her brother and his wife George and Jamie Gorka.
Surviving are her brother and his wife Paul and Gloria Gorka, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as her religious community, the Sisters of Mercy.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 28, 2020, from 10am to 12pm at St. Catherine's RC Church 110 Bray Ave., North Middletown, NJ with a mass of Christian burial at 12pm. A burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery on Pulaski Ave, in Sayreville.
Funeral services are entrusted to and under the direction of the Maliszewski Memorial Home 121 Main St. Sayreville, NJ 08872.
Memorial Donations in her memory may be made to the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Mid-Atlantic Community, 1645 US Highway 22, Watchung, NJ 07069

Sr. Louise was my confirmation sponsor circa 1973? We were in Sts. Philips and James in Phillipsburg. She was very much a close family friend in those years. I only recently found her again after many years through the Srs. I was working with here in Florida. I'm so very glad I had such a strong and dedicated role model in Sr. Louise. Until we meet again, rest in peace.

To Sister Louise Gorka's Family,
Sister was all about God, Her Community and Family and all of us whom she taught.
My twin sister and I myself Sr. Mary M. Hozeny were Blest to have Sister teach us at St. Mary's HS Perthamboy from 1964-1967. Sister was gifted and giving to all her students especially when it came to "Music Theory,the Glee Club Choir and shows.
Sister taught with great energy and we all loved her!
On a personal note I am related to the Triggs Family in Sayreville. My deceased Aunt and Unle were Joe and Emily Triggs. Mr. Gorka the day you were married my Fater drove Sr. Loiuse to your Aunt Anna's to stay with your ill Unle and my sister and I met you and your wife their. That was 9/6/65. I have been a Franciscan for 45 years and kept in touch with Sister. To you and Her Mercy Sisters this is indeed a great set back...yet she joins the ranks of "Choirs of Angels" in Heaven.
Michael Jackson's song "Heal the World" sums up Sister's life. Sister Made it a better Place with her Joyful giving and Love for all she came in contact with. Her love of God and Gift of Ministry in her Music and Retreat work was a Great Blessings to those she Touched.
My sister Carol and I are very saddened by your great loss. My heart goes out to all of youat this time. Sisters Mother was a wonderful person and yet Heaven is happy Sister is with them all once again.
My Ministry is in Reading Pa where my Motherhouse is . Please Know that Sister made a difference in all our Lives that never can be taken from her. Sister Louise will always be "A song in our Hearts. Blessings and Peace,

Sister Paulita as we knew her at St. Mary's H.S. in Perth Amboy, touched many of us by sharing and instilling in us the joy of singing. She brought out the best in us and has never been forgotten by the SMHS Class of '67. Rest in peace.
