Margarette Storminger Obituary

Margarette Helen King Storminger

AGE: 87 • Spring Lake

Margarette Helen King Storminger, 87, of Spring Lake, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012. She was born Jan. 22, 1925 to Marie and James King in the Vailsburg section of Newark. Peg was exceptionally close to her grandmother, Margaret, and spent wonderful summers with her down the shore at Ideal Beach in Middletown. She graduated from West Side High School in Newark and received her undergraduate degree in Psychology in 1946 from William and Mary College in Virginia. Her mother, Marie, and her step-father, Bill, purchased Pine Villa Bed and Breakfast in Belmar in 1946, where Peggy spent happy times working in her favorite summer job where her future husband, John, also worked. She continued her education at Fordham University in Manhattan for a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. After graduating in 1949, Peggy was offered a faculty position at Fordham's School of Education as the Assistant Librarian, where she worked for seven years. She and John married in 1951 and started their family in North Arlington before relocating in 1958 to Neptune. As the family grew, they moved to Spring Lake where she lived the remainder of her life. She was an active member of AAUW for many years, and regularly played bridge with a close circle of friends. Her love of books led her to a career at the Spring Lake Library where she worked for close to 20 years. She could often be found on the South End Beach with her family. Peggy was a devout communicant of St. Catherine's Parish for 45 years, as well as a member of the Altar-Rosary Society. She was also a member and volunteer with the Spring Lake Historical Society.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, John Joseph Storminger, in 2002. She is survived by her four daughters, Marie and Kevin Butler of Wall, Joanne and Robert Gilmartin of Wall, Sara Storminger and Jerry Ruch of Neptune City, and Jackie Stackable of Brick Township; 10 grandchildren, Coral and Steve Brooks, Kate Butler, Jared and Alicia Butler, Margaret Butler, Meredith Butler, Hayley Grace Gilmartin, Alysia and Christian Black, John, Luke, and Casey Stackable, as well as seven great-grandchildren, Jack, Maeve, and Rory Brooks, Emily and Tyler Black, James Shepard Cooper, and Brynnala Butler.

She will be remembered and loved forever by all who knew her. She was a wise and wonderful woman who was a true patriot and who loved her country deeply.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at St. Catherine's Church, Spring Lake, with interment following at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Sea Girt. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Spring Lake Library, 1501 Third Ave., Spring Lake, NJ 07762. For more information or to post a tribute, please visit www.neary-quinnfuneralhome.com.

Peg was such a wonderful friend to my mother, Peggy Nardone. I will never forget when my mother was sick, and I had to return to work in New York. Your mother Peg called me and offered to take my mother in, if I wasn't able to care for her during the week because of work, until she was well enough to return to her home. It was an act of kindness I'll never forget, and she also had such a wonderful sense of humor and a truly Christian heart. God Bless her and your family. -Marianne (Nardone) Telenko

My condolences to Peg's family. I know how much she loved her daughters and how devoted they were to her. Peg was a fathful docent at the Historical Society for years. You could always count on her and she was a pleasure to be with. When she was well she rarely missed one of our Theater Trips.
We will all miss her.
