AGE: 74 • Metuchen
Maria (Slavin) Ferns, 74, of Long Branch, formally of Metuchen died on Friday, January 2, 2015 in the Monmouth Medical Center.
Maria for born in Linwood Scotland to the late Charles and Bridgett Slavin. She had lived in Metuchen for 48 years before residing in Long Branch. She was a former communicant of St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen and currently a communicant of Our Lady of the Sea in Long Branch.
Maria enjoyed spending time with her family (especially her grandchildren), shopping for a good bargain and watching The Young & the Restless along with endless episodes of Judge Judy.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Joseph Ferns; her two sons, Paul Ferns and his wife Caroline of Medway, MA and Marc Ferns of Branford, CT.; two daughters, Serena Barchi and her husband Frank of St. John, IN and Jennifer Gregory and her husband Earl of Edison, NJ also 4 grandchildren, Scott, Ryan, Taylor and Alexis.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 7th at 9:45 am from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue (Rt. 27) Metuchen followed by a 10:15 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Cathedral, Main Street, Metuchen. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00-9:00pm. All services will end at the church, cremation is private. To send condolences visit www.costello-runyon.com

To a most beautiful woman inside and out, we fell in love with you Maria, and Joe instantly. Debi and I are devastated, but we also know that your in heaven now. We will be looking over Joe as best we can along with your wonderful family! We miss you, the DNC misses you, lets form another club when we are together again. Love you Larry & Debi
