MAUREEN MALIK BENDER
AGE: 50 SAYREVILLE
Maureen Malik Bender, 50, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 in the comfort of her home with her family present after a long battle with cancer. Born February 7, 1960 in Red Bank, she was raised in Sayreville, graduating from Sayreville War Memorial High School in 1978. She served 9 ½ years as a Medical Corpsman in the US Navy, and earned several service ribbons and medals. Upon leaving the Navy, she attended Middlesex County College and became a Licensed Practical Nurse, serving at Woodbridge Developmental Center until her retirement in 2006.
She was predeceased by her father, Stephen V. Malik; her grandparents, Stephen J. and Wanda (Wojaczyk) Malik and Francis V. and Jean (Ryan) Shea. Surviving are her son, Bryan W. Bender, her mother, Maureen P. Malik; her brother Stephen T. Malik and wife Claudia, all of Sayreville, her brother, Dr. Richard T. Malik of South Amboy; her nephew Kasey Christopher Malik and niece Bailey Arriana Hope Malik of the Morgan section of Sayreville.
Relatives and friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 on Sunday and 7-9 on Monday at the Whiteley Funeral Home, 241 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. The funeral will begin on Tuesday at 8:45 am at the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary RC Church, South Amboy. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, South Amboy.

Such a strong young woman to be able to face the adversities of this terrible disease, and a mother and son who adored her, gave her the strength to go on. May you both stay strong in her honor and make her the proud Mother and daughter that she was~~carry on her memory in all the good you can do in this world. Love and Prayers, Brenda
