Mehrdokht Hatami Obituary

Mehrdokht "Mary" Hatami

Toms River - Mehrdokht "Mary" Hatami, 94, of Toms River, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2019. She was born in Tehran, Iran, to Hossein and Robabeh (nee Varnous) Gerogon. In 1947, she and her son Victor emigrated to the USA to meet her husband who was already here and a student at Columbia University. Mary was a U.N. spouse and accompanied her husband during the independence of the Congo from Belgium and other missions he was sent on by the United Nations. World travelled, they moved to Colts Neck in 1952. They settled down in Toms River in 1986 to be close to her loving family. What Mary enjoyed most was family, friends, get togethers, and of late her two great-grandchildren. She loved everyone who knew her and was beloved by those she knew.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Abolghassem, in 1986, and son Cyrus in 2007. She is survived by her son Victor Hatami and wife Judith of Island Heights, son Cameron and wife Mojdeh Nasiri of Brick, and son Darius of Atlanta, Georgia. She also leaves behind granddaughter Shireen Beth Hatami of Island Heights, grandson Robert and wife Susan Hatami of Toms River, and great-grandchildren Ella and Grant Hatami of Toms River. Also, granddaughter Jan of U.S. V. I., and her extended global family and friends.

A Memorial will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity or house of worship would be a blessing. Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home of Toms River is in charge of arrangements.

It is with great sadness that I read of the passing of this kind, sweet woman who I knew many years ago. I have always remembered her good nature and was glad to learn that she lived a long life surrounded by all her family. I was also saddened to learn of the passing of her husband and son Cyrus who I remember as a young free spirit. May they all rest in peace.
