Mike and I were next door neighbors. We met when we were both four years old and remained lifelong friends. I have many fond memories of growing up together on Haven Terrace, playing “Marco Polo” in Mike's built-in swimming pool, playing sandlot baseball and tackle football on the fields at Samsel School, then later for the Morgan Panthers Pop Warner team and in the Sayreville Junior and Senior baseball leagues. When we got older softball became the sport of choice. Mike was a naturally talented athlete. Growing up, no one had the moves he had in football. He was always the hardest one to tackle! Along with Bob Burnett, we took our first “road trip” to Florida in 1973, driving my '66 Mustang and introducing Mike to the state he would eventually call home. I last spoke with him in September of 2011 and he reminded me of stories from that wonderful trip that I had long since forgotten! The world has lost a great spirit, and heaven has just gotten a little wilder! May God bless the entire DeVito family during this sorrowful time. Please know that Mike is in our prayers and God's arms. God bless you Mike. See you on the other side.

Sincerely,
Harry F. (Nicky) and Joan McLachlan

Rest in Peace, Michael. My sympathies are with your family now. I grew up across the street from Michael on Haven Terrace and I can still picture his "Prince"-like smile. I'll also always remember that he told me to never drink cold water with a meal, messes with your digestion, he said. Crazy thing to remember. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
