Nancy Peck Obituary

Nancy Peck, 81, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on Wednesday, (October 5, 2011) in Farmington, CT. She was born in New Canaan, CT. She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, NY where Nancy was an important member of the high school swim team and a high honors student. She was one of the first contestants on Jeopardy in 1964. Nancy spent most of her life in Hunterdon County; living in Potterstown, Stanton, and finally in Bloomsbury, NJ. Crossword puzzles, reading, gardening and cooking were her passions. During the years of the Flemington Fair, Nancy was very proud to take home many blue ribbons for her knitting and handiwork, mint jelly, and black-cap jelly. Nancy was an avid supporter of the 4-H program and every one of her children belonged to 4-H clubs. Every summer, The Peck Family took in children from the Fresh Air Fund Organization in New York City. In 1968, when a local swim club would not allow two Fresh Air Fund children to swim there, Nancy left and never returned. Appalled, she used this to teach her children never to discriminate. She also taught her children to respect the earth by her efforts at recycling. She was one of the avid forerunners of recycling, taking weekly Saturday trips to the Major's parking lot in Flemington, NJ back in the early 1970's.

Nancy Peck leaves behind her four children, David Peck in Brick, NJ, Su Peck in Norwich, CT, Linda Thompson in West Simsbury, CT, and Penni Petzold in Glastonbury, CT; and seven grandchildren, Courtney and Dylan Peck, Connor, Kara, and Katie Petzold, and Wendy and Rowan (step-grandchild) Thompson. She was also Aunt Nancy to Victoria and Beatrice Leemhorst, and Lucy and Emily Bregman. As Nancy loved reading so very much, if anyone would like to make a donation to the Hunterdon County Library, 314 State Highway 12, Bldg. #3, Flemington, NJ 08822, those would be her wishes.

At Nancy's request, there will be no services. The Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center of Avon, CT is caring for the family. For online condolences, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.
