Nocola Del Vecchio Obituary

Nocola Del Vecchio

AGE: 89 • Piscataway

Nicola Del Vecchio, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 25, 2017 at his daughter's home in Piscataway, NJ.

Born in 1928 to the late Vito and Maria Del Vecchio, he grew to adulthood during wartime Italy, in the small mountain village of Castel Nuovo di Conza. Mr. Del Vecchio left his family to travel to Venezuela for a better life. In addition to work there as an actor, model and tailor, he met his American born wife vacationing with family, and was married during her Venezuela holiday on February 14, 1953. The family moved to the United States in 1953 and settled in Newark, NJ, reuniting with others from the same Italian village of his birth.

Nicola's formal education in Italy ended at the 8th grade. He was particularly proud of the fact that all of his children and grandchildren graduated from college, most with graduate degrees, and that he financed 100% of his children's education allowing them to begin their professional lives with no debt.

Mr. Del Vecchio was known to all as a tireless worker, working 6 days a week for many years to support his growing family. For almost 60 years, he was master of his sewing machine as a designer and installer of awnings and shades. Only in his later years did he accept help from his son in law, Jim, when he could no longer safely climb a ladder, retiring at the age of 88.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife whom he missed every day since her unexpected passing in 2003, Christina Pacillo Del Vecchio, and his dear siblings, Michael, Atillio, Vincenza, Maria and and Geraldine.

Surviving are his loving children, Victor Del Vecchio and wife Lisa Lopez of Canton, MA and Mary Jo Masucci and her husband Jim of Piscataway, NJ, his cherished grandchildren Alexis, Nicholas, Dana, Scott and Lauren, and many nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ.

Funeral services will begin with a prayer at 8:45AM on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30am at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin R.C. Church 600, Harris Avenue, Middlesex, NJ.

Entombment will follow at Ressurection Burial Park Mausoleum, Piscataway.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Stein Hospice, 49 Veronica Avenue, Somerset, New Jersey, 08873.
