Philip Schwier Obituary

Philip Charles Mueller Schwier

Sea Girt - On Wednesday, December 23rd, Philip Charles Mueller Schwier, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 71.

Born in Spring Lake to Henry and Louise (Mueller) Schwier, Philip was a lifelong area resident. He attended Manasquan High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball. Sports were always a passion of his. Philip continued on to earn a business degree at West Virginia Wesleyan where he met Karen, the love of his life, also a graduate of Manasquan High School. They were both just blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on October 31st. With her by his side, Philip joined his father at Henry S. Schwier, Inc., a real estate company at which Phil was partner & owner for 43 years. He was an active member of both the NJ & National Associations of Realtors, and along with his brothers Thomas and Henry, was involved in the development of multiple communities, from Green Island on Barnegat Bay to Monmouth Shire in Spring Lake. Phil was a former Sea Girt Councilman and head of the Shade Tree Commission for many years. He was a longtime member of the Manasquan River Golf Club, having served on its Board of Directors as head of Membership. A man of faith, Phil was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and had served on the Church Council.

While his accomplishments were many, nothing brought him more pride and joy than the family he built with Karen. As a boy, Phil set the record for the most home runs in the Spring Lake/Sea Girt Little League, and he was so proud to coach all of his children in that same league. He was a father and grandfather who always stressed the importance of strength of character and a strong work ethic.

An avid outdoorsman, Phil loved to hunt, fish and golf, or simply enjoy his beautiful yard - his other pride and joy. Friends were like family to Phil, and he was blessed with the best of them. Phil's sense of humor, humility, courage, strength and his love of family helped him persevere through the last three years.

Although he is gone, he can never be forgotten. While each of us has our own memory of Phil, let us always recall this quote from him - "Remember that in life, the person who gives is 10 times happier than the person who receives."

Phil was predeceased by his parents Henry and Louise Schwier Sr. His spirit and love live on through his devoted wife Karen (Fischer) Schwier; his children and their spouses- Jennifer Schwier Arrup and husband Des, Philip Charles Mueller Schwier Jr. and wife Annemarie, and Jamie Schwier Emmerich and husband Dave; his cherished grandchildren- Madeleine, Morgan and Desi Arrup, Rebecca, Trip, Caroline and Teagan Schwier, and Georgia, Charlotte, and Austen Emmerich. Phil is also survived by his brothers, Thomas and wife Shirley Schwier and Henry and wife Edwina Schwier; Brothers-in-law Chris and wife Holly Fischer, Cole and wife Ann Fischer, Rick and wife Peg Fischer; Sister-in-law Debbie and husband Charlie Rose; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
