RICHARD MATYI
AGE: 64 WOODBRIDGE
Richard Matyi, 64, of Woodbridge died Friday Feb. 26, 2010 at Raritan Bay Medical Center Perth Amboy. Born Jan. 5, 1946 in Sewaren, he lived the last 20 years in Woodbridge. Richard was a 1964 Graduate of Woodbridge High School and then joined the Army. He left the Army as a Sergeant in 1967 where he had served in Viet Nam. He belonged to American Legion Post 87 and VFW Post 4410 both of Woodbridge. He was a mechanic and tanker driver for Tropical Cheese / Mendez Dairy in Perth Amboy for over 30 years.
He was predeceased by his 11-year-old daughter Denise in 1987. Surviving are his wife of 39 years Elsie (Macomber) Matyi, brothers Steven Matyi of Edison, John Matyi and wife Carol of Metuchen, sisters Lillian Smith and husband Bill of Sewaren, Janet Huff and husband Greg of Toms River and Eleanor Giordano and husband Matt of Toms River, also survived by two nieces and 9 nephews.
Funeral Services will begin Wednesday March 3, 2010 at 10:00am from Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue Fords, NJ, Funeral liturgy 10:30am Our Lady of Peace Church, interment Alpine Cemetery Perth Amboy. Visiting hours Tuesday 2-4, 7-9pm at the funeral home contributions may be made in his memory to NJ Cancer Institute 195 Little Albany Street New Brunswick, NJ 08901. I don't know anyone who ever came in contact with Richie who didn't like him immediately. He was always the gentleman and gentle soul who had an infectous laugh. He's one of the best and will always be thought of and missed. Our sympathy to all Richies family and friends.

" I am so sorry to hear of Richie’s passing. He will always be remembered by the many who worked with him such as me. No one was like Richie. His natural ability to fix the trucks, many of which were beyond repair was amazing. His gift to communicate and help those who did not speak the language was special. We all learned from him the desire to succeed. He loved his family and he loved life. He was a great Father, Husband and Friend. May God always keep Richie close. We will miss you buddy."

I am sorry to hear of Richie passing away, I always had a good time in his company and yours. It's been a long time but I still remember feeling good when we would get together. Peace to you and your families.
