(Asbury Park Press)

ROBERT N. WELLS III
AGE: 56
FORMERLY OF BRICK
Robert N. Wells III, 56, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at home, in Madison Heights, Va. Born in Columbus, Ga., he grew up in the Herbertsville section of Brick, attending Brick elementary schools before graduating from Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft, in 1971. After earning a Master's Degree in psychology from Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, Va., Bob devoted the rest of his life to improving the lives of developmentally disabled adults. He worked at Lynchburg Sheltered Industries prior to his employment for many years with the State of Virginia at its Central Virginia Training Center, from which he recently retired as director of vocational services. Most proud of his daughter Jenny, Bob otherwise found the greatest joy in life through helping others, particularly the less fortunate among us. He delighted in the peace and tranquility offered by long hikes in the Appalachian Mountains and summed up his life in his own words as follows: "I believe an individual's life is the sum total of all those living beings that have touched that life; in that I have been so richly blessed."
He was predeceased by his father, Robert N. Wells Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer of Lynchburg, Va.; his mother, Nancy Dane Wells of Brick; and brothers, Dane B. of Jackson, and William E. of Allenwood.
A memorial event in Virginia will be private. Arrangements were by Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory, Lynchburg, Va.

I will always remember Bob as one of the people who welcomed me to Lynchburg. I had the pleasure of working with him at LSI and CVTC. "Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow,
May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow." Unknown

I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Bob and always enjoyed his sense of humor and wit. He was friendly and caring to those around him each day. I know that he was a proud father and a loving son who will be missed very much.

I had the good fortune of meeting Bob in 1986 when I first began working. He would provide services of packing and kitting product for the company I worked for using the skills from the gifted residents he so loved and cared for. Now today, I am blessed to say I knew Bob as a friend and a continued support in my business. I so loved his visits when he would make deliveries. He was such an interesting man to talk with and such a wonderful person. Lynchburg has truly lost a “one of a kind” in Bob. He will always be remembered and I for one will truly miss him.

I have such fond memories of Bob. He was my supervisor but I also considered him my friend. He had a wonderful work ethic and was a good role model to those who knew and worked with him. He was kind, generous and had a wonderful sense of humor. When I was having a particularly dificult day at work, he provided me with a humorous, heartfelt, and sincere dose of reality. I will miss him very much.

It was my privilege to work with Bob for 21 years. He was always a gentleman and known in the Lynchburg area as a man of integrity. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great story teller. His passion for the work he did was obvious to those who knew him and his influence will continue for a long time. He will be missed in so many ways, especially as my friend.

Dear Nancy, Kim told me of your son's passing and we all at Allen Farms are very saddened...I did not know your son, but after reading his obituary, he must have been a wonderful and special person, like you....My deepest sympathy. Val Guenther (from Kim's)

I will always be grateful to Bob for working with my son at Lynchburg Sheltered Workshop. He trained him and helped him get a job at a local dry cleaners that he held for many years. I believe Chris would never have accomplished this without Bob's belief in him! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Bob's passing. He and I grew up together through high school and college with your family and I fondly remember those years, especially the anniversary trip to Bermuda. I wish your family well, especially his daughter, and will keep you all in my thoughts.

Love,

Dee

My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time.

Bob's devotion to improving the lives of those with special needs will live on in each person that he came in contact with during his life. He will be missed at CVTC.

His influence will continue in those that have been a part of the vocational programs which have allowed them to achieve a higher level of independence.
