Stephen Hydeck Jr.
Sarasota - Stephen Hydeck Jr., 91, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2020 in Sarasota, FL. He was born January 15, 1929 in Taylor, PA, son to the late Emma and Stephen Hydeck Sr. Steve graduated from Taylor High School in 1947, and served dutifully for the U.S. Army as a Corporal in the Korean War.
Steve dedicated his career to the railroad, with over 40 years of service, starting out as a Brakeman for DL&W and later as a Conductor on the Erie Lackawanna, Conrail and NJ Transit Railroad systems. After retirement he owned and operated Hydeck's Travel in Eatontown, NJ.
Steve was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Sylvia Genovese Hydeck; brothers, Joseph and Michael Hydeck; two sisters, Romayne Koerner and Emily Ponas and great-granddaughter Sophia Rose Fifarek.
. Surviving is his long time loving partner, Bonnie Combs; his devoted daughters and son-in-law, Bonnie and Frank Monteforte, Tinton Falls, NJ and Lori Hydeck, Sarasota, FL. Known as Pop Pop, he is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Chase and Katie Fifarek and children Ellie, Eva and Charlie; Frank A. Monteforte II; John and Katelin Fifarek; Jacqueline and Jeffrey Greco and daughter Emilia; Lauren Fifarek; his sister Irene Slagan of Scranton, PA; numerous nieces and nephews; and his little dog Zeus.
Steve's passion was time spent with family, as well as, traveling the globe. He enjoyed golfing, collecting coins and railroad memorabilia. Steve was the quintessential role model, teaching his children and grandchildren the values of hard work. He will be remembered fondly with each passing day and forever missed.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home, Sarasota, FL. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20th from 4-8pm. A Military Committal Service will be held on Friday, August 21st at 11:30am at the Sarasota National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Combs, Chase Fifarek, Frank Monteforte II, John Fifarek Jr., Jacqueline Greco, and Lauren Fifarek.
