WILLIAM R. BROWN
AGE: 87
FORMERLY OF ABERDEEN
William R. Brown, 87, formerly of Aberdeen, passed away at his home in Manahawkin on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. He was born on Staten Island and lived there before moving to Aberdeen in 1964. He lived in Manahawkin for the last 5 years with his wife, Jane. Bill was a WWII veteran who proudly served in the Merchant Marine in the North Atlantic. He was a Chief Marine Engineer, with a long and distinguished career on the water. He retired from Marine and Aviation, NYC, in 1982. Bill was a member of the Marine Engineer Benevolent Association; the Marine and Aviation Anchor Club; the American Merchant Marine Veterans Denis Ryland Chapter, AMVETS Post #3; and is a Life Member of the Keyport Yacht Club.
Bill is predeceased by his first wife, Clare Sullivan Brown, in 1981; his parents: Francis H. and Marion (Nilsen) Brown and his brothers: Rodney, Frank and Alan Brown. Surviving are his wife, Jane Sobel Brown; a daughter, Susan Mikaitis and her husband, Hans of Navesink; a son, Gary Brown and his fiancée, Wanda Boucher of Bradley Beach; four step-sons Mark, Scott, Lee and Jay Sobel; along with four step-grandchildren Mark, Jr., Jay, Grace and Marisa Sobel. He also leaves behind a number of cherished nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Saturday November 27, 2010 from 1-5PM with a Funeral Home service at 3:30PM at the John E. Day Funeral Home 85 Riverside Ave. Red Bank, NJ 07701. Interment will be private and under the care of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions for "God's Special Children" would be greatly appreciated. Donations should be made out to the Marine and Aviation Anchor Club and sent in care of Michael LaMarca, 33 Cayuga Street, Staten Island, NY 10301. Please visit William R.
