William Marrone Obituary

William P. Marrone

AGE: 99 • East Brunswick

William P. Marrone, 99, died Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, surrounded by his loved ones after a long, wonderful life. A native of New Brunswick, he eventually settled in East Brunswick where he built his own home even though not a carpenter by trade. Talk about the pioneer spirit! There, he and his sweetheart wife Martha raised their family. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 38 years, finishing his career as Superintendent of the North Brunswick, NJ Post Office.

Mr. Marrone was a communicant of St. Bartholomew RC Church, East Brunswick.

In addition to being an avid gardener, photographer, and stamp collector, he enjoyed a wide variety of music, but was especially fond of opera and Italian folk songs. He was a kind-hearted, caring and compassionate man who was always there for those he loved; he always saw the best in everyone and rarely complained of a problem. When questioned about the key to his longevity and youthful spirit, he would respond, "the Mediterranean Diet" and his "Sicilian Warrior Blood." That and his love for his family helped him live life to the fullest. He is survived by his wife Martha with whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this April. Others that will miss him immensely include his daughter Marie Bendel, his son William J. Marrone with his wife Caroline, his daughter Jennifer Marrone and her husband David Short, his three grandchildren David Bendel, Matthew Bendel, and Erica Marrone-Peters, and his remaining sister, Marion Quinn. All of those who had the good fortune to know him will remember his loving spirit and kind heart. You will never be forgotten Pop!

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 18th, 9:15 AM, at The Brunswick Memorial Home, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bartholomew RC Church, East Brunswick. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick.
