William Walsh Obituary
William R. Walsh, Jr. passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at age 93.
Bill was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on June 10, 1927 to William R. Walsh Sr. and Mildred Precheur Walsh. Immediately following graduation from St. Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark, NJ he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served during World War II as a weather technician in Okinawa. He and his wife Helen Torsiello Walsh were married in August, 1950 and moved to Piscataway, New Jersey.
Bill started his career as a journalist for Spayth Weekly newspapers followed by service as Business Administrator of Piscataway Township Schools. Following that he served as Dean of Administration for Middlesex County College. Bill served as CFO and Executive Vice President of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for 17 years, retiring in 1990 and then continuing as Trustee Emeritus of the Foundation.
Bill will be deeply missed by his wife of 70 years, Helen Torsiello Walsh, his three children Karen and husband Peter Tarricone, son William R. Walsh III, daughter Colleen and her husband Michael Maroney Jr., five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and sister Marjorie Kristen Walsh.
A memorial Mass will be planned for late Spring or early summer this year.
