Winifred M. MacDonald

AGE: 77 • Brick

Winifred M. MacDonald, 77, of Brick, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel, following complications from a recent surgery. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was raised in Rutherford, where she attended St. Mary's Elementary and High School, graduating in 1951. While in high school, she developed her love of acting, participating in numerous school plays. Following high school, she was employed as a secretary for Wallace and Tiernan of Belleville. She married her late husband, Joseph MacDonald in 1952, residing in Rutherford before moving to the Herbertsville section of Brick in 1962. She was active in Community Theater and was a member of the Pine Tree Players theater company performing on the stage at the Spring Lake Community Theater from 1963-1973. She was an assistant office manager and dental technician for the late Dr. Haskell Askin, forensic odontologist of Brick. She loved the Jersey shore and spent many of her days on Manasquan's Seawatch Beach with family and friends. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and was a loyal New York Yankees and Jets fan. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Winifred Quinn, as well as her husband, Joseph; and older sister, Eileen Quinn. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Edythe Ann Quinn of Unadilla, N.Y.; her six children, Joseph Jr. of Millersville, Md., Richard and his wife Kathleen of Brick, Robert and his wife Deborah of Brick, Kathleen Hayward of Brick, John and his wife Shannon of Talkeetna, Alaska, and Scott and his wife Christine of Lanoka Harbor. She was a warm and loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Colonial Funeral Home of Brick, is in charge of arrangements. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 16 at the Church of the Epiphany, Brick. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in the name of Winifred MacDonald.

Rich and Family,
