George Steincross Obituary

GEORGE STEINCROSS George Wagner "Dub" Steincross passed away on March 14, 2025 in Kansas City, MO after a long battle with Lewy body dementia. He was born in Harwood, MO on March 11, 1939. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and Southern Seminary. He was a devoted husband of 62 years to Joy, an amazing father to Kip (wife Susan) and Kevin (partner Ron), a loving Grandub to Julia and Emma, an adored son of Gentry and Dora, a beloved brother of Jeannine, Anna Lee and Mazie, and valued family member to many Steincrosses. Dub was a proud Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard. He devoted more than 35 years of his life to ministering and caring for others while serving as pastor of 5 different churches. Dub grew up an all-around athlete and number 1 superfan of his favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, with the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs following close behind. If you were lucky, you got to see him dust off his old uniform, grab a baseball bat and recite "Casey at the Bat" by memory. He never met an ice cream he didn't like - any flavor, home-made, store bought, soft serve, in a carton or a cone - he loved them all. Dub was a lover of people, a community leader, involved with numerous foundations and charitable organizations. Dub spent his life helping other people improve theirs. A memorial service will be held at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church, 4725 NE Lakewood Way, Lee's Summit, MO, where Joy has served as Accompanist for 26 years. Please join Dub's family and friends on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 10:30am with visitation beginning at 9:30am. If you are unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation of time or money to a charity that you respect and support.

Oh how I'll miss my little buddy, Dub. We grew up on farms a mile apart near Harwood, MO, attended the Baptist Church in the town of 75 people, played baseball and basketball together (as well as competing with one another since the school district boundaries were separated between our farms), double dated together, went to Southwest Baptist University together, -- well you get the idea. Since those early days we remained in contact via phone, text, email, etc. We also would take day trips back to our old homestead regaling in boy hood stories and adventures. Unfortunately due to my health situation we will not be able to attend his Celebration of Life tomorrow but rest assured our prayers of comfort during this transitional period of time within his family unit will be lifted numerous times. Joy, Kip and Kevin we love you.

Dub and Joy have been wonderful friends for a large part of my life. Dub had a wonderful way of living a spiritual life in a warmth that everyone wanted to be a part of. Dub was a true good person inside and out and a fellow appreciator of Ms. Sandra Bullock. My favorite memory of Dub was when he performed part of my brothers wedding ceremony as an "Elvis" impersonator .
Prayers and peace to the family during this time.
