WILLIAM SIMS Obituary
WILLIAM SIMS
06/28/1965 - 09/06/2025
William "Joe" Sims was born on June 2th, 1965, to Sue and James Hunt and left this world on September 6th, 2025. After his parents passed, he was adopted by Jim and Linda Sims, whom he loved as his parents, and they in turn, loved him as their own. Joe was raised in Liberty, MO, and graduated from Liberty High School in 1983. Joe bought his home in Missouri City and enjoyed living out his days in the small-town atmosphere. After high school Joe went to work for MODOT, where he enjoyed a long and meaningful career as a maintenance supervisor. Joe retired in 2017 after 31 years at MODOT. He was well respected and loved by his fellow coworkers. They described Joe as always seeing the positive in any situation and hard-working. After retirement, Joe enjoyed spending his time doing everything he loved. He was a regular at Corner Bar and enjoyed the camaraderie, homemade food, and baked goods. Joe also enjoyed spending time socializing at the Landing and was one of their favorite regulars. Joe grew up working on old cars in the garage with his dad and brother, which eventually turned into his favorite hobby. His passion for cars and tractors followed him into retirement, where he could be frequently found at car and engine shows as well as working pit crew for the races. You could always spot Joe at the races in his overalls and cap, which was his daily dress code. Everyone who knew Joe would tell you that he always saw the positive in anyone and was one of those rare people who made you want to be a better person. His friends and family often described him as one of the most kind and caring people they knew. Joe was always around to lend a hand to anyone and would drop everything to help a friend in need. Joe will be missed by many.
Joe leaves behind his mom, Linda Sims whom he often enjoyed long chats with. His sisters, Amy (Dean) Mantia and Mandy Sims whom he adored. His brother and best friend, Jeff Sims (Becky). His nieces Carly and Faith, whom he loved dearly. His stepchildren who he considered his own, Leslie, Stephen (Rachel), Gerri, and their families. Along with many friends and family who will forever remember him fondly. Joe is preceded in death by his father Jim Sims, his mother Sue, his father James, and his beloved dogs Shadow and Mo. If anyone had a place in Heaven, it was Joe, and we're sure he is enjoying the golden racetrack with his loved ones up there.
The family will be hosting a celebration of life on September 23rd from 5pm to 9pm at the Landing in Liberty, MO. (Arrangements Entrusted to Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Liberty)
