POINT PLEASANT — Patsy I. "Pat" Matthews, 86, of Point Pleasant, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016, at the Hubbard Hospice House, in Charleston.
She was born November 27, 1929, in Chillicothe, OH, a daughter of the late Everett Newman and Ollie (Henneberger) Newman. Pat was a homemaker and an outstanding cook. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and traveling. She had also worked for the Credit Bureau of Point Pleasant and was a teacher's aide.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, William L. Varney; and two sisters, Betty Francis and Carol Recob.
Pat is survived by her husband, Lawrence "Larry" Matthews of Point Pleasant; three daughters, Brenda (David) Darst of Point Pleasant, Janette (Tom) Flynn of Milford, OH and Judith (Roy) McCann of Cadiz, OH; three sons, Brad Varney of Gallipolis, John (Cheryl) Varney of Savannah, GA and Dana (Ellen) Varney of L'Anse, MI. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Jennifer Koshenco, Ryan McCann, Justin Flynn, Jason (Megan) Flynn, Alissa (Gabriel) Roush, Anthony (Amanda) Darst, April (Steven) Bell, Jacquelyn Varney, and William Michael Varney; five great-grandchildren, Laynee Bell, Trevor Bell, Joey McCann, Austin McCann, and Clayton McCann; and one brother, Donald Newman of Chillicothe.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Jim Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, for those considering an expression of sympathy, donation may be made to the Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.
