GALLIPOLIS — Roger S. Brumfield, 74, of Gallipolis, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Holzer Assisted Living in Jackson.
Born on October 13, 1943 in Gallia County, Roger was the son of the late Leo and Vesta Waugh Brumfield. On August 21, 1966 Roger married June Williams, who preceded him in death on July 24, 2011. He was a graduate of Gallia Academy High School in the Class of 1961. Roger earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Rio Grande College and a Master's Degree in Education from Ohio University. He taught 42 years in the Gallipolis City Schools at Gallia Academy High School. Roger was a member of French City Baptist Church where he served as the adult Sunday School teacher for many years. In his later years, he also enjoyed attending Christ United Methodist Church. He adored his grandchildren and loved gardening, camping, fishing, and riding motorcycles.
Roger is survived by two daughters, Amy Jo (David) Belville of Athens, Ohio and Lori Ann (Christopher) Barnes of Gallipolis; four grandchildren, Emily Jo Belville, Elizabeth June Belville, Dylan Norris Nunn, and Nicholas Maxwell Barnes; and many adored nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, June Brumfield, Roger was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Waugh and Carolyn Crews and one brother, Denver Brumfield.
The funeral service for Roger Brumfield will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Rollins officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dylan Nunn, David Belville, Chris Barnes, Charles Lee Waugh, Randy Crews, Rick Jackson, Mark Suver, and Jeff Brown. Honorary pallbearers include Chuck Waugh, Ricky Jackson, Willie Brown, Ryan Jackson, Josh Brown, Randy Jackson, and Jacob Crews. Friends may call prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Holzer Assisted Living-Jackson and Holzer Hospice who took excellent care of our dad. In lieu of flowers, Roger's family requests donations be made in his memory to Gallia Academy Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 724, Gallipolis, OH 45631.
