Doris Oakley Obituary

Doris Margiotta Oakley, 86 of Betterton, MD passed away on October 22, 2021 at Whispering Pines, Rock Hall, MD.

Mrs. Oakley was born on June 24, 1935, daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Gross Margiotta. She was born and raised in Spring Valley, New York and after her marriage to Bill Oakley they moved to North Carolina where they raised their family. In 1970 Doris moved to Chestertown, in 1973 moved to Betterton where she began her career at Washington College in their Business Office/Human Resources Department, retiring after 32 years of service. Doris was a member of the Red Hatters where she formed close relationships with several beautiful ladies.

Along with her parents, Doris was preceded by her husband of 25 years, Bill Oakley: her daughter, Lynn Oakley Ashworth; brothers Ernest Margiotta, Jr, Vincent Margiotta and George Margiotta and a sister Marie Margiotta.

Doris is survived by her children, Susan Gatling (Wayne) of Rock Hall and Mark Oakley (Teedo) of Massey; 4 grandchildren, Taylor Oakley, Tyler Oakley (Julie), Matthew Oakley (Grace) and Cassi Clayton (Radek) and 9 great grandchildren, Hadyn, Noah, Christopher, Nolan, Dylan, Cole, Morgan, Jason and Harper.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 2 from 6 to 8 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD, where funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 3 at 11 am. Burial will follow in Galena Cemetery.
