Helen Marie Merenda

Helen Marie Merenda of Chestertown, MD passed away on January 30, 2025, at Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, MD. She was 71 years old. She was born in New Alexandria, PA on October 26, 1953, the daughter of the late William and Pauline (Varvarics) Ramaley. She graduated from Derry Area High School and married Charles Merenda in January of 1971. They were married for 14 years, and Helen raised their family in Crumpton, MD. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Ramaley and a sister, Martha "Mardi" Ramaley-Snyder. She loved spending time with her kids, their friends and her grandchildren. She loved learning new things, cooking, sewing, gardening and making healthy foods. She was a lover of herbs and perennials, making crafts and beautiful wreaths. She is survived by her children: Alison Betancourt of Atlanta, GA, Emily Battcock of Chestertown, MD, Sarah Merenda of New York, Noah Merenda of Wilmington, DE, Andrew Wagner of Asheville, NC, and Mark Wagner of Chestertown, MD; grandchildren: Phree Betancourt, Elijah Battcock, and Sage Kahan; and siblings: Robert "Bob" Ramaley, Bruce Ramaley, Ella Ramaley, Joyfa Joseph, Susie Ramaley, and Jason Ramaley.
