Michele Sipala Obituary

Michele Paul Sipala passed away peacefully at his home in Rock Hall, MD on March 13, 2025.

He was born in Chestertown, MD on February 24, 1946, the son of the late Edith and Paul Sipala. He graduated from Chestertown High School with the class of 1965, many of whom he kept in touch with over the years. After graduating high school, he attended University of Maryland where, much to his pleasant surprise, he was accidently placed in the girl's dorm during his first semester. He later started working with his father at Paul's Shoe Store and eventually took over the business himself. He became a Chestertown staple, known for having every possible type of shoe at his store and for always having a dog or two working with him.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends, taking several trips to the Midwest and South America. In later years he also enjoyed weekly sporting clay shoots with friends. He traveled twice to Sicily to visit his father's homeland and meet his Italian cousins. He enjoyed numerous car and motorcycle trips up and down the east coast; ultimately going west with Liz where they visited multiple national parks. Along the way he indulged his wife by stopping at every historic marker and point of interest, often venturing off the beaten path. A dream came true when he moved to Piney Neck on a small farm in 2016, enjoying and preserving a piece of his beloved Kent County on the Chester River.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by a sister, Marianna Quigley.

He is survived by his wife, Liz Sipala; children Jennifer Sipala, Michele Sipala, Matthew Sipala and Andrew Sipala and wife Nicolle (Castro); grandchild, Kathryn McDonald; and sister, Paulina Wolfe.

Services will be held on Friday, March 21 at 4:00 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown. A visitation where family and friends may gather for drinks and shared memories will be held from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County at https://acskc.org/support/general-donation/.
