William Carroll Obituary
The soul of Bill Carroll left his earthly body on August 7, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He was 66 years old when he passed.
Bill was born at 9:35am on May 7, 1958 kin to his parents Edward Amsley Carroll, Jr. and Dorothy Louise (Jones) Carroll. Bill's birth, according to his Dad, was well timed, since TV episode #32 of "Wagon Train" for that night had just gone off when his mother's water broke. After a quick drive to the hospital and a speedy delivery, little Billy took his first breath of many. His dad appreciated that Bill was born at that time of day, allowing his dad to get "prit-near" a full night's sleep before the morning milking.
Bill grew up on a dairy farm with two older brothers, Ed and Jeff, as well as two younger sisters, Lisa and Trisha. All he ever wanted to be was a dairy farmer, so much so he graduated from the University of Maryland Institute of Applied Agriculture with an Associates Degree in Agriculture Business and Economics.
But alas, though farming was in his blood, Bill would return to college at night, falling in love with his life-long career in land surveying. He was grateful to the mentors and friends in his life that shaped his 40 year career.
Bill's first marriage was brief, but yielded one of his most precious opportunities - to father his son, Drew, and to raise his sister Jenny. He was a dedicated and devoted father, who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Some of Bill's fondest memories with his son included playing countless rounds of golf, catching the occasional Orioles game, and having "quick" phone calls that turn into hours-long conversations.
Bill met the love of his life, Kathy, at the Double T Diner in 2001. Three years later, they became husband and wife at Wesley Chapel in Rock Hall, MD. With Kathy, came Bill's "bonus" children, Nicole and Terry, and grandchildren Robert and Austin. Kathy also blessed Bill with 4 dogs and 5 horses. Over the years, he learned the tongue-in-cheek phrase, "After the horse, honey, you're number one." Anyone who saw Bill and Kathy together, felt the strong loving bond they shared.
Like any good surveyor, Bill had a focus on precision, so it came as no surprise that Bill knew precisely when his relationship with God started - April 26, 2006 at 3pm. Over the past 18 years, Bill has faithfully served our Lord and Savior through countless ministries, acts of service, kindness, and love. The reach of his good works is immeasurable, and chances are, Bill impacted your life in one way or another. Bill never liked taking credit for his accomplishments, and left all the praise to God. The last 11 years of Bill's life was spent as Pastor of Betterton & Still Pond Methodist Churches. He was honored, humbled, and forever grateful to serve these congregations & the surrounding community. Bill has gone home to be with the Lord, and it is now up to all of those who knew Bill to carry forward his legacy of Faith and Service.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Edward and Dorothy, and sister Lisa.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Carroll; children: Drew Carroll, Nicole Payne, Terry Graybeal, and Jenny Mattson; grandchildren: Robert Rabe, Austin Rabe, Kiley Mattson, and Abbie Mattson; and siblings: Jeff Carroll, Edward Carroll, and Trisha Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Betterton Methodist Church and Still Pond Methodist Church. Bill would also be tickled right to death if you were to join us in worship at his churches. Services are held every Sunday at Betterton Methodist Church at 9am, and Still Pond Methodist Church at 10:30am. You can also join us for a 20 minute worship service via telephone every Sunday morning at 8am by dialing 605-475-2200 and entering pass code 8792932#.
This is not goodbye, just a see you later. As Bill always closed his Sunday morning telephone broadcasts, "Until then, go in peace, and may the peace of God go with you." Amen.
