Audrey Ann Downes

1944 - 2021

Audrey Ann (Black) Downes was born on May 13, 1944 in Fairlee, Maryland. She earned her wings on Thursday, January 7th at 10:05pm at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, surrounded by her three beloved children. Ann, as we always called her, attended Worton Point and Garnet School. She graduated in 1962. Ann married Robert James (Bobby) Downes in 1963 and they became parents of 3 children. Ann attended Mt. Pleasant UM Church and Boardley Chapel AME church in Pondtown, Maryland. She worked several jobs before starting ConAgra where she retired. She was the mother of the community. Her rules were, if you are in my house you will get the same love and the same punishment as my kids. She loved to have a house filled with people. She enjoyed cooking, dancing and playing cards. When Ann and her sisters Elinore and Joyce got together, the party was on. Ann is preceded in death by her parents Emma and Harrison Black, her husband Robert James (Bobby) Downes, granddaughter Shardae Downes, two brothers Rudolph and Harrison (Sonny) Black) and one sister Shirley Sewell. She leaves to treasure her memories a devoted daughter, Lori Downes of Centreville, MD, two sons James (Donny) and Lamont Downes of Pondtown, MD, step daughter Jaki Flood, step son Rassan Downes, sixteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two sisters Joyce Hopkins and Elinore Waits, three sisters in law, Elmyra Black, Betty Downes and Blanche Taylor, three brothers in law, Sylvester Sewell, Roger Hopkins and Willie Waits, goddaughter Lorie Johnson, godson John Winchester, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, five special friends, Gary Emory, Erica Sadler, Pam Johnson, Rosalind Hoxter and Patrice Warner.
