Donna Harrington Obituary

Donna Cecilia Harrington, 86, of Centreville, Maryland, passed away peacefully at Bayleigh Chase in Easton, Maryland. Born on May 31, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles Milton Harrington and Catherine Cecilia "Celie" (Hess) Harrington. She lived in Centreville her entire life, deeply rooted in her family, faith, and community.

A 1957 graduate of Centreville High School, Donna began working for Queen Anne's County Public Schools immediately after graduation. She dedicated over 50 years of service to the school system, ultimately serving as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. Known for her commitment and reliability, she faithfully walked to work every day, never owning or driving a car.

Donna was a devout Catholic and a lifelong parishioner of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Centreville, where she sang in the choir for many years. Her strong faith shaped her simple, gentle life.

She had a great love of sports, cheering on the Baltimore Orioles and following NASCAR and Indy racing from their early days on television. In her spare time, Donna enjoyed making hook-and-loop rugs and built an impressive doll collection beginning in the 1980s. She loved crab feasts with her family, where she would happily pick crabs for hours, and was especially devoted to her mother, Celie, and her sister, Sondra. Donna was known for her colorful clothing, lively humor, and the way she was "tickled" by life's funniest moments.

For most of her life, Donna was afraid of dogs-until she met a 90-pound Goldendoodle named Lucky, who changed her heart. She remained remarkably healthy throughout her life and passed away without ever having been seriously ill. Donna was predeceased by her beloved sister, Sondra Michael (Harrington) Hopkins, in 2019.

She is survived by her nephews Shaun Hopkins of Westminster, MD, and Ryan Hopkins of Queenstown, MD; her niece, Colleen Hopkins of Annapolis, MD; and her five grand-nieces and nephews: Riley and Quinn (Ryan), Caitlin (Colleen), and Reagan and Finnegan (Shaun). She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and great-aunt who lived with faith, humor, and devotion to her family and community.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Centreville, Maryland. Interment will follow at St. Peter The Apostle in Queenstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 303 Chesterfield Ave, Centreville, MD 21617.
