William Earl "Earl" Griffin

1920 - 2021

William Earl Griffin of Stevensville, MD died on February 17, 2021 at the age of 100.

Earl was born on August 9, 1920, in Washington D.C. to the late Earl Dewey Griffin and Helen (Amidon) Griffin. He was also predeceased by his loving wife of 31 years Barbara Wright Griffin.

Earl attended St. John's College High School, graduating in 1939. In 1942 at the age of 22, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII on the USS Independence. After the war he opened "Earl's Super Liquors" in PG County. After 41 years, he sold his business and retired in 1989.

Earl and Barbara Jean Wright were married in 1986 spending their time between the Cove Creek Club Community on Kent Island and The Breakers West Community & Country Club in West Palm Beach.

Earl was a former member of the Maryland State Transportation Commission, and Maryland State Real Estate Commission. He also served as VFW State Commander and former Director of Southern Maryland National Bank.

Earl and Barbara were avid golfers and loved to travel. Earl's favorite slogan was "Every day is a good day!"

Many thanks and appreciation go to Betsy Hoffman, Tony Reed, Joyce Harris and Valerie Horan. Caregivers in his last years, they assumed all the responsibility and overall care for Earl. Their attention, dedication, and friendship went beyond the expectations of the norm.

A funeral service will be held at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Chester, MD on March 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Private burial will follow at St. Peter's Church in Queenstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 1861 Harbor Dr., Chester, MD 21619.
