SIERRA VISTA- Bettie was born in Boston, Mass and grew up in Norwood, Massachusetts. She attended nursing school in Connecticut where she earned her LPN. She met Phillip (Skip) Carlton Sturtevant while attending nursing school whom she married. She lived in Dayton for a short time but settled in Yarmouth Maine for many years. She was a reporter for a Portland newspaper and eventually became an EMT. In 1976, the family moved to Mansfield, Mass where she resided with Skip until his passing in January 2006. While living in Mansfield, she worked as a nurse at Sturdy Memorial Hospital and raised her three children. Once her children were all adults, she went back to school and earned her bachelor's degree. After the passing of Skip, she moved to Sierra Vista Arizona to be closer to her daughter. She joined the Sierra Vista Community Chorus and made many new friends. She lived in Sierra Vista until her passing.
Bettie was the mother of three children. Susan Heather (predeceased), Deirdre Ellen and Sean Andrew. She is survived by her sister Louise Goyette, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was a lover of dogs and cats and never met a stranger. She could talk the ears off a statue of Beethoven if given the proper amount of time. She always tried to do her best no matter what she was doing. She loved those around her deeply and "adopted" many friends into the family. She wasn't famous but she will always be infamous to us. She was our crazy old lady who loved her some shenanigans.
