Ailene "Smiles" Garner
Greenfield - Ailene "Smiles" Garner, 92, of Greenfield, died Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Carlinville Area Hospital. She was born August 28, 1933, in Greenfield, to James F. and Wiletta (Frazier) Reed. She married Bob Garner April 26, 1953, in Greenfield, and together they shared 66 years of marriage before he preceded her in death March 7, 2020.
Surviving are her children, Jim (Pat) Garner, Gayla Garner, Robyn (Jim) McClelland, and Harry Garner, her grandchildren, Jared (Val) Garner, Sally (Dan) Glaenzer, Joe (Kate) Garner, Tim (Jody) McClelland, and Carley Morgan (Matthew), seven great-grandchildren, and her sister, Marlene Roberts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers, Peter, Frazier, and George.
Ailene loved her Lord, her family, and her hometown of Greenfield, especially the Tigers. She served on many local organizations and loved preparing for and working at the Greenfield Triennial Homecoming. She spent many hours sewing and repairing many Tiger uniforms and banners for the gym. She will be missed by many.
A funeral will be held Thursday, September 4, at 11 am, at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 am until time of funeral service. Burial will follow at the Oak Wood Cemetery north of Greenfield. Memorials are requested to the Greenfield Tiger Backers Booster Club. Please leave a memory or condolence at shields-bishopfh.com
