Andrew Meyer Obituary

Andrew Jacob Meyer, 34, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, after a lifelong struggle with adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).

He was born March 1, 1983, a son of Gary (Sherry) Meyer of Springfield and Vicki Meyer of Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

Andy was preceded in death by his brother, Zachary; and his grandfather, Donald Meyer. He is survived by his parents; his brothers, Joseph (Angie) Meyer of Virginia and Joshua (Stacy) Meyer of Basalt, Colorado; and his nieces and nephews. He also is survived by his maternal grandparents, Merle and Kate Lovekamp of Arenzville; and his paternal grandmother, Roberta Meyer of Jacksonville.

Andy was a proud graduate of Beardstown High School, Class of 2001, and attended Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield. For several years thereafter, he worked on the family farm in Illinois, where he developed an uncanny knack for learning how to do or fix anything. He later used those skills to become crew foreman at a leading solar energy company in Colorado. He loved being in the outdoors hunting, camping, fishing, skiing, hiking and, most of all, hanging out with friends and family. Andy had an infectious smile, was everyone's friend and lived his life to the fullest. He was a passionate, talented, dedicated and hard-working man who will be sorely missed.

An open house celebration of Andy's life for family and friends will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at The Elks Lodge, 205 E. Second St., Beardstown. Memorial donations may be made to the United Leukodystrophy Foundation (www.ulf.org). Condolences can be made online at http://www.brownscremationservice.com/notices/Andrew-Meyer/guest-book.

I still think about Andy. He was there for me after my wreck in '06. He always made me laugh. Hugs to the family

I am so sorry for your loss. Andy used to come to my house and play the Wii and eat. He would play in the dirt with my son. After I got home from the hospital from a bad wreck he was there to visit me and help me outside. He always made me laugh. I live in and own the first house he owned. I am heartbroken over his passing.

Andy was always the happiest of kids at school. He worked hard at every task and enjoyed it all. He came to Carbondale to help us build an addition to the house which made each day from then on so very fun!

I will always remember Andy for his infectious laugh. My children laughed until they cried whenever he came over to play.
