Darrell L. Smith
Alexander - Darrell L. Smith, 89, of rural Alexander, died Saturday, December 16, 2023, at The Grove in Jacksonville. He was born March 3, 1934, in Jacksonville, the son of Lloyd Edward and Twyla Roberta Williams Smith. Darrell married Marilyn Rawlings on April 5, 1953, at Franklin United Methodist Church, and she survives.
Darrell is also survived by three sons, Danny (Linda) Smith of Waverly, and Randy (Tona) Smith and Darin (Annette) Smith, both of Alexander; eight grandchildren, Kristy (Tom) Kennedy of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Nathan (Jo) Smith of Chandler, Arizona, Kelly (David) Riley of Waverly, Mandy (Rich) Rourke of Iowa City, Iowa, Dusti (Sam) Larsen of Bentonville, Arkansas, Cody (Megan) Smith of Jacksonville, Erin (Kory Long) Mattes of Jacksonville, and Kilee (Hayden Moore) Smith of Bettendorf, Iowa; 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanne Tepen.
Darrell farmed in the Alexander, Franklin, and Waverly communities his entire life. He was past-president and active member of Franklin Lions and Morgan County Fair Association. He was a founding member and past president of the Morgan County Saddle Club, and a member of the County Line Dance Club. He was an avid mule rider, attending the cross-country trail ride in Eminence, Missouri for 45 years, and enjoyed showing cattle and pigs at local, state and national fairs. Darrell enjoyed following his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities and successes in all of their endeavors.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Franklin Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 12 Noon until 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Franklin United Methodist Church or the Morgan County Fair Association.
