Jacksonville - David L. Dawdy, age 79, of Jacksonville, IL passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at The Grove in Jacksonville. David was born July 4, 1946, in Jacksonville, IL to Ivan N. Dawdy and Helen R. (Burton) Dawdy. He married Beverly E. Grimes, August 5, 1967, in Nebo, Illinois and she survives.
David graduated from North Green high school in 1964, Hannibal Lagrange College in 1966 and the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1969. He then began his 47-year career as a pharmacist in central Illinois hospitals and pharmacies in Olney, Roodhouse, Litchfield, Hillsboro, Pittsfield and Gibson city.
David was a devout Christian and very active in the churches of the communities where they lived and was currently a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville, IL.
David is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly Dawdy of Jacksonville Il; son, Jeffrey (Guyla) Dawdy of Jacksonville, IL; daughter, Belinda (Jason) Hoke of Chillicothe, Mo.; grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Robertson of Wentzville, MO., Alisha Wisdom of Wentzville, Mo., Caleb Hoke of Sioux Center, Iowa, Sarah Hoke of Hannibal, Mo. and one great grandchild, Faith Musch of Wentzville, Mo.; brother, Jim (Carolyn) Dawdy of Boone, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Helen Dawdy.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 12:30 until the time of services on Saturday at the church.
A reception at the church will follow services. Private burial will be held at Pine Tree Cemetery near Roodhouse. Memorials are suggested to Hannibal-LaGrange University or Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.
