Donna J. (Hutson) Savage
Springfield - Donna J. (Hutson) Savage passed away on June 21, 2025. She will be profoundly missed by her family and friends.
Born on April 16, 1945, to Willard and Bernice Hutson, Donna grew up in Bethel, Illinois, which is where she felt most at peace her entire life. When she referred to "home," she meant the farm. She cherished her older siblings, Janet and David, both of whom predeceased her.
Donna married the love of her life, Glenn Savage, on September 30, 2000. What fun they had together traveling, socializing, and riding their Harley Davidson motorcycles. It was a sight to see Donna cruising on her bike with a gleaming smile on her face! Glenn was a devoted partner and caregiver. Donna loved him immensely, and she knew that he, in turn, deeply loved her. She also adored Glenn's family, who graciously embraced her as one of their own.
To say Donna was a devoted mother does not do her commitment to Neil and Kristen justice. Her love for them was limitless. Bursting with pride, she told everyone within earshot of their accomplishments (big and small). She truly went above and beyond for them. When Neil was honing his Little-League pitching skills, Donna bought herself a catcher's mitt and caught for him until her hand was black and blue. When Kristen was young, Donna drove countless hours for gymnastics and cheerleading (and loved every minute of it). That devotion never wavered.
True to form, her love for, and commitment to, her grandsons was unending. They were a shining light in her life and could do no wrong in her eyes. She also took great comfort in the fact that Neil and Kristen found true love and life-partners in their spouses, Gabriela and Paul, respectively.
She was exceedingly intelligent, achieving perfect grades, a perfect state-board score, and perfect attendance when she earned her LPN license in her late 30s, while raising Neil and Kristen. An impressive accomplishment that she-for good reason-found rewarding and validating.
She loved all things Christmas and always made that season special for her family, from her spectacular hand-made bows to her delicious batches of fudge. No one meticulously strings a Christmas tree with glimmering lights like Donna did. She would delight in the first snowfall each year, calling Kristen to announce the momentous sighting, which foretold of festive things to come.
Her steadfast Lutheran faith lit her path throughout her life. Having personally persevered through many challenges, she would want us to do the same as we mourn her passing. And so we shall, buoyed by the imprint of her boundless love.
Services will be private. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield. The Williamson Funeral Home of Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left online at
