Dorothy Riley Obituary

Dorothy M. Riley, 89, of Beardstown, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.

She was born July 27, 1920, in Beardstown, the daughter of Andrew and Lottie Vincent McGovern. She married Lionel "Bumps" Riley on Feb. 22, 1942, in Canton, Mo., and he preceded her in death Sept. 22, 2001.

Surviving are three daughters, Connie Lee (husband, Valjean Rhule) Smith of Springfield, Janet Sue (husband, Ward Anderson) Shipley of Hannibal, Mo., and Christina Jo (husband, Edwin Eugene) Graham of Colfax; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald McGovern and one sister, Delores Looker, both of Beardstown; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son in infancy, James Mitchell Riley; and three brothers, Eugene, Wilbur and William McGovern.

Dorothy attended Bluff Springs schools. She worked as a representative for Avon, and also raised her three daughters. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Emblem Club in Beardstown. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, cooking and ceramics.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown. Burial will be at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 9:30-11 a.m. on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown. Memorials have been suggested to Heritage Manor South, First United Methodist Church or Macular Degeneration Association. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.
