John Barker Obituary

John L. Barker, 75, of Jacksonville and formerly of Roodhouse and White Hall passed away Saturday morning, July 9, 2016, at his residence.

He was born August 19, 1940, in Jacksonville, the son of Carl and Carmaleen Cuddy Barker. He married Becky Vedder on June 7, 1970, at Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, and she survives.

He also is survived by his children, Terrie Day of Jacksonville, Tim (wife, Anna) Barker of Elmhurst, Lesley Barker of Roodhouse and Kerry Barker of Jacksonville; one grandson, Christopher Day of Jacksonville; his brother, C.E. (wife, Mary Jo) Barker of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews, including Beth Miles of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Carol Surbeck (surviving husband, Lyndell of Jacksonville).

John was a farmer for many years in Greene and Scott counties. He was a member of White Hall Lodge #80 A.F. & A.M., Ansar Shrine in Springfield and Rasna Shrine Club. He enjoyed socializing with his friends and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, North Greene Spartans and Lady Spartans fan.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with inurnment at a later date at Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse. The family will meet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Memorial Home Services/Hospice, Youngblood Cemetery or North Greene Athletics. Becky and family: I am so sorry about the passing of John. We were across the street neighbors when he was growing up and a friend of my two brothers. He was always so friendly when I would see him.
