Franklin - Karen Sue Edwards Wood, age 79, of Franklin, Il. died Friday (February 21, 2025) at her residence.
She was born August 1, 1945 in Jacksonville, Il. daughter of the late Wilber Lee and Doris Lorene Teaney Edwards
She married Charles Jeffrey "Woody" Wood on May 12, 1984 in Waverly, Il. and he survives.
Also surviving is a son Lance Miner (Tammy) of Waverly, Il.; two grandchildren, Lucian Rawlings (Kristina) of Houston, Tx. and Brianna Rodriguez (Jose) of New Jersey; a brother, Richard Edwards (Sylvia) of Visalia, Ca.; and a nephew, Christopher Edwards of Visalia, Ca.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Karen was a graduate of Waverly High School. She worked for the U.S. Post Office starting in 1979 in Waverly, Il. and in 1985 became the postmaster in Arnezville, Il. becoming the postmaster in Waverly in 1988. She was a Region 4 Vice President of NAPUS (National Association Postmasters United States). Karen enjoyed traveling with Woody and loved the ocean. She also loved to read. Karen lived life unapologetically, but she lived life to the fullest without hesitation and without guilt. Life will definitely be dull without her, but we wish her nothing but peace and rest.
The family will host a Celebration of Life will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mick & Mary's in Thayer, Il. A private burial will be private at a later at Waverly East Cemetery.
