Kevin Brodie Obituary

Kevin Dale Brodie
Jacksonville, IL - Kevin Dale Brodie passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022, at his home in Jacksonville. He was born December 21, 1954, in Ferris, the son of Royt and Marge Hofmeister Brodie. He graduated from Carthage High School and Illinois College in 1978 with a degree in physical education. While at IC, he played football and made lifelong friends. He immediately began his teaching and coaching career at the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville which continued for 31 years.
In 1988, Kevin met the love of his life, Nancy Knepler. They were married on April 4, 1991, and she survives. He is also survived by his son, Aaron (Nikki) Brodie of Carthage, four grandchildren, Payton, Christopher, Ridge, and his "Little Spot" Fawn; five siblings, Steven of Florida, Linda Brewer of Denver, Barbara (Tim) Siddons of Springfield, Julie (Steve) Robards of Newburgh, Indiana, and Jill (Dean) Trone of Alabama; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Rita Gean and Christine, twin brothers Roger and Rodney, and Ron; and special brothers-in-law Jack Skaggs and Jim Brewer.
Kevin was head football coach at ISD for ten years and served for 28 years as head coach of the high school girls track team, and three years as head coach of the junior varsity boys track team. In addition, he was an assistant coach for football, high school girls' basketball, and junior high and high school wrestling. In 1986, he was selected as National Association of the Deaf Coach of the Year. Kevin retired from ISD in 2009. In 2012, he was inducted into the ISDAA Hall of Fame.
Over the years, Kevin and Nancy enjoyed many camping trips, winter cruises, and trips to Las Vegas. Kevin's real passion was found in gardening, and they spent countless hours growing and nurturing the produce they would bring to the farmer's market. Kevin was a founding member of the Lincoln Square Farmer's Market and continued there for 29 years. His customers knew he was meticulous with the quality of his produce. He loved the market and the many customers, especially the children, who became dear friends over the years. Kevin was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, but above all else, Kevin cherished his grandchildren and the time he spent with them.
Due to the pandemic, there will be no visitation or service at this time, but services will be announced at a future date. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Illinois College. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.

Kevin and I were students together at IC. WE also played football together and I had the pleasure of playing beside him. He always always always always had a smile on his face and was always a pleasure to be around. Luckily had a chance to talk with Kevin last summer at the IC reunion in Bahans. Had not seen him for over 40 years and had a very nice visit. He was very positive on his cancer prognosis. He is the kind of friend you always want to see one more time. Based on the other comments included here, Kevin made a very positive impact on his players and students at ISD. For those of us that knew him many years ago, we would not have expected anything different. Sleep well my friend with no more suffering. Gene.
