Larry Proffitt Obituary
He was born Jan. 15, 1939, in Jacksonville, the son of Ernest and Hollis Walker Proffitt. He married Brenda Decker on Sept. 21, 1957, at Centenary United Methodist Church, and she survives.
He also is survived by three sons, Larry Russell (Terry) Proffitt of Baltimore, Maryland, Gary Ernest of Jacksonville and Jerry Lee (companion, Denise Laird) Proffitt of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Michael (Alicia) Womer of Peoria and Brandi (Jason) Williams of Baltimore, Maryland; five great-grandchildren, Jason Williams Jr., Russell Williams, Myah Womer, Michael Womer III and Leah Womer; a brother, Ronnie (Mary) Proffitt of Literberry; and a brother-in-law, Butch Sprague of Roodhouse. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cathy Sprague.
Larry worked as a body man for more than 40 years at the Chevy dealership in Jacksonville, McKinley Auto Body and at his own shop. He showed many champion dogs at AKC shows. He was inducted into the Jacksonville Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1997. Larry enjoyed sports, especially Cardinals baseball and NASCAR races. He also coached Little League Baseball teams.
A private service will be held. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Morgan County Animal Control or the donor's choice. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
