Lloyd Leefers Obituary

Lloyd Arthur Leefers, 58, of South Jacksonville passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at his home.

Born in Jacksonville on July 8, 1959, to John Dale Leefers and Lois Mae (Reeve) Leefers, Lloyd graduated in 1977 from Jacksonville High School and received his associate's degree in culinary arts in 1989 from Joliet Junior College.

Lloyd married Trudy Cockerill in 2000 and she survives. Lloyd also is survived by his sons and daughter; Dustin (wife, Stephanie) of St. Peter's, Missouri, Cory (wife, Alice) of Springfield; and Lindsay Holland (husband, A.J.) of Jacksonville. He also is survived by his brother, Larry Leefers (Becky) of Haslett, Michigan; sisters, Marsha Meskan (Steve) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Brenda Penrod (Larry) of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, and Carla Speer (Tom) of Rolling Meadows; and a sister-in-law, Vicki (Sturgeon) Leefers of Eighty-Four, Pennsylvania. His two grandchildren, McKenna Holland and Leah Leefers, have been the lights of his life over the past several years.

In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Eugene; a sister, Carol Ann Higgins; and a brother-in-law, James Higgins. Many loving nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews also survive their uncle.

Lloyd enjoyed his work as a baker at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired and more recently at the Illinois School for the Deaf. Lloyd loved the game of baseball and rooting for his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed spending time remodeling their home; for those who knew him, projects rarely were started before midnight. Lloyd was especially passionate about his collection of rock music and often shared obscure facts about the history of music. He had a song for any situation. Those close to him will miss his serenades. Gone but never forgotten, "How much I love you, you'll never know, 'til you join me in my dream." - Todd Rundgren.

At his request, cremation has been accorded. A celebration of Lloyd's life will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends at the funeral home from 4 p.m. Friday until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Private family committal services will be held at a later date. Condolences may be shared online at buchanancody.com.

To the family of Lloyd Leefers:

I am only now learning of Lloyd´s passing because I read of his widow´s passing in today´s online notices. Lloyd was a baby when we were growing up and you and family were our neighbors. I never did know what you each did in later years, but you are not forgotten. Please know that I send you each sympathy for both of your losses, and I hope that good things are happening in each of your lives.

Sincerely,
Judy Robinson, Your neighbor from long ago

To Lloyd's family:
I was sorry to hear of Lloyd's passing especially at a young age! I always enjoyed working with Lloyd at ISVI. He was an excellent Baker but most importantly a true gentleman and easy going guy who was a pleasure to work with. So sorry for the loss of a wonderful man and your loved one.

I'd bump into Lloyd at the grocery store once in awhile. We'd always talk about getting together for a motorcycle ride, and maybe a beer or two. I know I passed the house once or twice while on the bike, but I decided not to bother him. I wish I had, now. What a truly nice guy! So sorry for your loss, Trudy, siblings, and everyone.

Loyd was a man that if you met him, you liked him. Just a super good guy. Always easy going. His personality was something one would aspire to mimic for themselves. His shoes cannot be filled and he cannot be replaced. The word has lost a good one. My heart is heavy and I am sad. Jr Rivers

I remember Lloyd well from being a child and backyard neighbor in South Jacksonville. The whole Leefer family was amazing! So many friendly kids who laughed easily and took care of each other. Brenda and I were the same age and school friends. I was so sorry to hear about you losing Lloyd. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
