Michael Shaun Newell
Michael Shaun Newell, beloved father and husband, respected journalist, devoted mentor, community leader and enthusiastic advocate, passed away on September 29, 2025, at the age of 47 after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.
On January 28, 1978, Shaun was born to Michael "Spider" and Judith Newell in Jacksonville, IL.
Shaun married his best friend and the love of his life, Amanda Bergschneider, on May 28, 2005, in Franklin, IL. He was a devoted father to Elliott (11) and Meredith (8).
Shaun is survived by his wife Amanda, their children Elliott and Meredith, his parents, Mike and Judy Newell, his maternal grandfather, John Spradlin, and his in-laws, Joseph and Barbara Bergschneider, Paul (Janie) Bergschneider, Emily (Jason) Fuchs, Catherine Bergschneider, and Susan (Ryan) Cain.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at the Trailside Event Center (4416 N. Prospect Road, Peoria Heights, IL) beginning at 5pm. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In memory of Shaun, those wishing to honor his life and legacy may make donations to the "For the Benefit of Elliott and Meredith Newell" account-established to support their future college education-at any CEFCU Member Center. Memorial contributions may also be directed to the Center for Prevention of Abuse, P.O. Box 3855, Peoria, IL, 61612. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this very difficult time.
