Lakeland, FL - Mildred Briggs, 95, of Lakeland, FL (formerly of Jacksonville, IL) passed away Friday, May 19, 2023. She was born March 27, 1928 in Chapin, IL the daughter of Lester W. and Helen Lindsey Barfield. She married William F. Briggs on March 28, 1946 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on January 2, 1988.
She is survived by her daughter, Renee (Barry) Hawk of Lakeland, FL ; her brother, Jim Barfield (Karen) of Winchester; her sister, Shirley DeJaynes of Clinton; her grandchildren, Andrew M. Prewitt (Suzanne) of Bartow, FL, Stephanie Fox of Galesburg IL, Jeffrey A. Briggs and Anthony E. Briggs; great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Eric E. (Rick) Briggs; three brothers and two sisters: Lester W. Barfield, Jr., John Robert Barfield, Harold Barfield, Mrs. Rosalie Stark and Mrs. Sarah Ann Varner. Mrs. Briggs was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She attended Calvary Baptist Church while living in Jacksonville and Shepherd Road Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, FL. She was a member of the Salvation Army Home League in Jacksonville and Lakeland. She was a joyful person whose kindness and love were felt by all who knew her. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Berea Cemetery near Prentice. The family will meet friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
