Nancy Brosmith Obituary

POMPANO BEACH, Florida - Nancy C. Brosmith of Pompano Beach, Florida, and formally of Libertyville, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015.

Nancy was born March 6, the daughter of Philip and Blanche Curry. They proceeded her in death, as did her sister, Blanche Curry. She married William Brosmith in 1954 and he preceded her in death in 1990.

Nancy is survived by her four children, Susan Brosmith of Jacksonville, Illinois, Kathleen Brosmith of Mundelein, Illinois, Allan (Donna) Brosmith of Libertyville, Illinois, and Philip "PJ" Brosmith of Huntley, Illinois. Her grandchildren include Nathan (Jeanna) Burkett and Jenna (Patrick) Zielbauer; and her great-grandchildren include Austin and Maxi. Nancy also is survived by her beloved sisters-in-law, Alana Hoar, Carol Brosmith and Trip Brosmith. She was adored by her nieces, nephews and adopted grandsons.

Nancy was the matriarch of the family and was treasured by all who knew her. She was the beacon of hope, of happiness, of celebration and of family. She offered clear and direct examples as to how life could be lived. She loved to "go" anywhere, anytime! Cruising was her favorite sport! She also treasured her book club, her bridge group, her movie group, and her Admiralty Condo family. Nancy loved entertaining and was a gracious hostess. A party at Nancy's was always fabulous and an event not to be missed.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2015, at Kraeer Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pompano Beach, Florida. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at noon at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Pompano Beach, with entombment to follow at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in North Lauderdale, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to New Directions Warming and Cooling Center, 100 S. Fayette St., Jacksonville, IL 62650 or COVE Alliance, P.O. Box 1051 Libertyville, IL 60048. Condolences may be left online at www.kraeerpompanobeach.net.

Dear Kathy,
I have been thinking of you, praying for Nance and your family since I read your sad news. I am sorry the gravity of your Mom's cancer overwhelmed her ability to recover.

She was so much like you. You were like a pair of fun-loving sisters out for a special afternoon... one of many you, Nance and sister Sue enjoyed all over the world.

The fun, laughter and adventure you shared will always be yours to treasure and remember.

But, I suspect for you the sound of your own laughter will remind you of Nance and will keep her close.

Sue, Kathy, Allen and PJ -
My heart goes out to all of you on the loss of your mother. Nancy really was amazing, and the picture you posted for this memorial, Nancy with her bright smile and enjoying life, says it all. I KNOW you will miss her, that goes without saying. But over time, the tears and sadness with subside, and you will have such wonderful memories of her that will carry you through and make you smile and laugh again. Nancy possessed a strong faith in God, and I am sure that this helped her through this very difficult ordeal. Heartfelt love to all of you, Terri McCraken

I am sorry for your loss. I have been thinking of you both constantly.
Aunt Nancy was truly one of my favorite Brosmith's. She was so kind, considerate and thoughtful. She always made me feel welcome. At the same time, Aunt Nancy was fun loving and a welcome addition to any party.
( Maybe she's having a welcome cocktail with Jack Monahan right now!)

I cannot say I know how you are feeling right now. She is your mother, and nothing can replace that. I am certain you know what an exceptional woman she was.

For me, she was the first person in this family that made me actually feel like I was accepted... At least by the "outlaw" division.

I knew I was breaking new ground by bringing my Asian roots to the Brosmith name. She always welcomed me with open arms and most importantly an open heart. 20 years ago we all vacationed in the Connecticut shore, this was my first Brosmith family excursion (I should have run like hell that night.) She and I sat next to each other in the evening as she sang old WWII songs.... In tune I might add.

I loved everything about her. Corel red lipstick, perfectly blown out hair, bedazzled shoes and sharp humor.

The only comfort I can muster right now is that she is peaceful, finally reunited with the man she loved, your father.

You have all been wonderful children.

Love you all!!

Although we didn't have the opportunity to spend as much time together during our formative years as we would have liked to, your Mom, our Aunt Nancy, always played an incredibly important role in our family.

She was a beacon of hope, of happiness, of celebration, and of family. Her ability to welcome people was fantastic. Without fail, anyone lucky enough to be invited, would be met with the most fantastic
Hors'sources ( because is a meal really necessary???), the beverage of their choice, and most importantly an honest, pure, and compassionate welcome. We loved her ability to listen to everyone, and yet discard, so appropriately, those that did stand up ( you know who you are).

She offered clear and direct examples as to how life could be lived, and it was rare ( if ever) that her offerings were less than spot on.

I will miss her humor, her warmth, and her friendship, but am thankful that my cousins embody her nature, her warmth, and her grace. I am confident that the she is incredibly proud of her family, and is there any more important or valuable legacy than that!

God Bless, and God speed, we love you Aunt Nancy.

Again this morning I am thinking of you all and your wonderful glamorous mother. I will forever remember her smile and kindness and referring to you as her darlings. When I went with you to her home in Florida she said we should relax and rest because we were all working so hard first person who had ever said that to me! She was a gem and you are her sparkling jewels. I will be with you in spirit as you celebrate her life and lay her earthly body to rest.
Mike and I toasted to a truly class act Wednesday evening, her first evening in heaven. We love you.

The Great woman
There are not so many people who qualify to be a Grama with a grand Son and a priest from another world, but she made it and we shall forever be proud of you. Words can not express our loss but the Joy of knowing that we are defined of who we are by you and what you taught us and knowing that you and watching over us from above dries our tears and brings smiles. Keep us in the straight path Grama.

Shortly after starting my first job out of college. I had the good fortune to meet Kathy and eventually the rest of the Brosmith clan. From day one the Brosmiths treated my father, brothers and I like family. So many great dinners, parties and holidays were spent with the Brosmiths. The stories recounting the food, the laughs and the fun could fill a book. It has been a great life lesson for me as I have tried, like Nance, to treat my children's friends as if they were my own. Our lives have been all the more blessed thanks to following her example. Nance was a class act and she will be missed.

Dearest Kathy,

We were all saddened to hear the news of your Mom's passing. I read the obituary and thought what an extraordinary life your mom lived! It was the most positive, joyous summation of a life well-liked that I have ever read. That coupled with your "cruise stories" really helped me feel that I knew her a little.

Please be assured of my love and prayers for you and your family at this difficult time.

We lived next door to you Brosmiths for maybe 20 years. Can't even count the number of holidays, parties, and great times we all had together when I was young. Her recent pictures don't look like she aged at all. I remember playing bridge with my mom, Nina and Nancy when they couldn't find a fourth, cribbage with your Dad Bill, he was such a riot, and my Dad's best friend, You girls used to babysit me when my parents went out of town , and PJ was one of my best friends in HS even though he might not have known it. At Bill's retirement party, he gave the most beautiful poem tribute to Nancy I have ever heard. She was my second mom. She threw me my wedding shower in 1983, and was there when mom "gave me the talk" before I got married. Then when Andy was born Nancy had on a white pant suit and he threw up all over her! 30 years ago! Christmas Eve was always special, Easter's, New Years Day eggs benedict, the card games, so many memories. I'm glad she had a good long and fun life. I love your whole family. My sincere condolences. Love, Denise DuSold Kitchen.
