Shirley Hainds Obituary

Shirley Hainds
Jacksonville - Shirley M. Hainds, of Jacksonville, IL passed to her eternal home on October 27th, 2025, at the age of 76. She was born February 1st, 1949, in Macomb to Leon J. and Francis M. (Alexander) Davis. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Ronald L. Hainds. Together they had three children – Christian Davis Hainds of Hammond, IN; Kiley Kate-Ellen Hainds (husband, Joseph Bopp) of West Chicago; and Johanna Ley Hainds of Jacksonville. She is survived by three grandchildren – Josef Demitry Hainds, Madelyn Grace Bopp, and Grant Michael Bopp. She is also survived by many members of her extended family, including her uncle Joseph Davis (wife Phyllis Davis) and her many friends, including Pat Manker of Jacksonville. Family was extremely important to Mrs. Hainds.
Shirley grew up in Macomb, where she cared for her many pets (including her favorite – a horse named Prince), raced motorcycles, and spent many afternoons sitting at her grandmother's kitchen table during her school lunch hour. She cherished those moments and talked about them frequently and with fondness. After graduating from Macomb High School, she attended Western Illinois University where she graduated with a Bachelors and Masters Degree in business education in 1971 and 1979 respectively. While attending WIU, she met her husband, Ron. While way out of his league, she said yes, and they were subsequently married on July 6th, 1974, at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville. She continued to be an active member in that church, and was particularly proud of being able to participate in Vacation Bible School with two of her grandchildren.
Mrs. Hainds began her career working for the Illinois State Board of Education, but moved into a teaching position within the Jacksonville School System at Turner Junior High School. After leaving teaching for a prolonged period of time to focus on her true calling – being a proud homemaker and full-time mother to her three kids, she returned to teaching in the 1990s, holding positions at Franklin High School, and finally retiring from the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired as a proud member of AFSCME Council 31. She continued to be a member of the Union's retiree chapter.
Mrs. Hainds will be remembered as a fierce and loyal wife, mother, daughter, and friend. She is sorely missed by those close to her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, November 1st, 2025, at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. The family will meet friends from 10-11 A.M. prior to the service. A reception will follow at the church. Flowers can be sent directly to the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville, IL. Memorial gifts can be made to Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, or the MS Society. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of the arrangements. I got the privilege of knowing Shirley when she brought her daughter,Kiley to my dance studio. I enjoyed teaching Kiley who was a very bright little girl. Shirley was always kind to me. I´m so sorry for your loss. We will all gather together in eternity again. PTL!

Shirley Mae's grandparents Hulda and Leon were our next door neighbors when I was growing up and my older sister loved going over there to watch The Outer Limits with her when she was staying with her grandparents. I think the last time I saw Shirley was when she spoke so beautifully at Hulda's funeral. Rest in eternal peace.

Ron and Family,
We are shocked to hear of Shirley´s passing. We are so very sad and sorrowful to hear this news.
I wish I had some words to convey a measure of comfort. The best I can think of are the words of Corrie Ten Boom, "There is no pit so deep that Christ is not deeper still."
Sympathy and love, Tom and Myrna
