Terry Lee Cooper
Beardstown - Terry Lee Cooper, 77, of Arenzville, died Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing. He was born September 26, 1947, in Beardstown, the son of Glen and Betty Livingston Cooper. He married Mary Elaine Flynn Cooper, who preceded him in death on July 6, 1999. He is survived by two sons, Vincent Cooper of Arenville and Joseph Thomas Cooper of Rushville; one brother, Ted Cooper of Austria; one sister, Cathy Clark of Rushville; two aunts, Sharon Livingston of Springfield and Pat French of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; two brothers, Thomas and Timothy Cooper; two aunts, Judy Livingston and Rosemary Suffern; and a brother-in-law, Chris Clark. Terry graduated from Beardstown High School and honorably served in the United States Army. He was drafted into the army and served in the Vietnam War; he received a combat infantry badge, a bronze star, and three other service-related medals. Terry was a heavy equipment operator with Godot Enterprises and was of the Lutheran Faith. Terry enjoyed golfing and riding motorcycles and was a founding member of the Bro Riders. He was raised in the Beardstown area, but after graduating high school, he moved to Texas, later Arizona, and settled back in the area to be close to his family.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2025, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends one hour before the services at the church. A private family burial will be held at Camp Butler at a later date. Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements. Memorials have been suggested to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund: https://www.vvmf.org/about-vvmf/. I worked with Terry in the mid 70's on a project in Springfield. Stand up guy. Good operator and never afraid to speak his mind, no matter what. The world has lost a good one.
