Barbara Atamaniuk Obituary

Greenfield – Barbara Ann Atamaniuk, 71, of Hatchery Road, a lifelong resident of Franklin County, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, April 22, 2025 at Charlene Manor in Greenfield with her family at her side following a lengthy battle with dementia. Barbara was born in Greenfield on June 12, 1953, the daughter of Carlos and Alice (Garey) Renfrew, Jr. She was raised and educated in Greenfield, graduating from Greenfield High School with the class of 1971. Barbara had been employed at Deerfield Academy where she retired from following 16 years of faithful service with the school. A woman of faith, she attended functions at the Greenfield Salvation Army. Of her leisure time activities, she enjoyed making jewelry, playing cards, family reunions and quality time spent with her family. Barbara was a quiet, unassuming woman known for her spirit of friendship and generosity. On November 17, 1984, in Greenfield, she was married to Shane Peter Atamaniuk who survives. Besides her faithful and devoted husband of 40 years, she leaves one son, Shawn Atamaniuk (Samantha) of Greenfield; two children from a previous marriage, Jennifer Breault of Baldwinville, MA and Jeffrey Sakowicz of Orange, MA; three sisters, Diane Wood of Rutland, VT, Linda Rounds (Kevin) of Greenfield and Cindy Phillips of Greenfield; two brothers, Carlos Renfrew, III and Joseph Garey (Ann), both of Greenfield; one aunt, Dotty Woods; six grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Edward Renfrew. Graveside committal services will be conducted Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the family lot in St. Anne's Cemetery in Turners Falls. Friends may call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro, VT on Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara's name may be made to Charlene Manor Extended Care Nursing Home Activities Fund, 130 Colrain Road, Greenfield, MA 01301. Barbara's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Charlene Manor for the excellent care and compassion she received during her stay.
