Elaine Grant Obituary
Brattleboro- Elaine Fiske Grant, 90, of Green Meadow in West Brattleboro, died peacefully Sunday evening, August 17, 2025 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.
Elaine was born in Hartford, Connecticut on July 26, 1935, the daughter of Aurthur and Naomi (Hallquest) Fiske. She was raised and educated in Wethersfield, CT, graduating from Wethersfield High School, Class of 1953.
She had been employed at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital working in the Admitting Office from 2002 until retiring from her position in 2018 following many years of faithful service at BMH. Previously Elaine worked in the offices of several Brattleboro physicians that included, Dr. John Daly, Dr. Rote, and Dr. John Houpis. From 1970 – 1973 she, with her husband Ted, ran the Village Fare Sandwich Shop in West Brattleboro. Previously she had been employed at the Holstein-Frisian Association and at Famorlari Shoe Company, both in Brattleboro.
Elaine loved flower gardening and was a member of the Brattleboro Floral Arts Club. Of her other pastimes and interests, she enjoyed knitting, loved traveling with her husband Ted, cooking for family and friends and quality time shared with her family.
A woman of faith, Elaine was a longtime member of First Congregational Church in West Brattleboro.
On May 26, 1969, at the Wethersfield Methodist Church, she was married to Frederick Grant who predeceased her in 2015.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Crandall (Sheila) of East Douglas, MA and John Crandall (Joni) of Brattleboro; and five step-children, Stephen Grant of VA, William Grant of FL, Jeff Grant of ME, Tim Grant of NC and Patti, also of NC. Additionally, she leaves 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur Fiske, Jr. and Warren Fiske, and a sister, Claire Felter.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, September 6th at 11:00 A.M. at First Congregational Church on Western Avenue. A reception will follow the services to be held in the church's fellowship hall. Interment will take place in the family lot in West Brattleboro Cemetery on Mather Road.
