Larry Geandreau Obituary
Larry Geandreau (Johndrow) passed away peacefully at his home in Keene, New Hampshire, on October 11, 2025.
Larry was kind, funny, and someone people loved to be around. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors-biking, walking, fishing, camping, clamming, taking and sharing photographs, birding, and spending time by rivers and the ocean. Nature was his happy place, and he found joy in sharing those moments with others, most recently with the little ones at the preschool where he worked.
Sports was another lifelong passion, especially hockey, which he played in high school and during his time in college. In the early 1980s, Larry coached high school hockey in Brattleboro, Vermont. A proud New England sports fan through and through (yes-the Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots) he loved bonding with friends over a good game. On more than one occasion, neighbors asked if he could shut the windows when his enthusiasm got the better of him during a big play.
Larry was also a talented baker, a skill he discovered as a child while at home recovering from early health challenges. Baking remained one of his great joys throughout his life, a way to connect and share with family, friends, and neighbors and offer something delicious from his kitchen.
For several decades, Larry worked as a skilled carpenter in Vermont and Bar Harbor, Maine. When the physical demands of the trade became too great, he found a new path. In his early sixties, he earned an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education and discovered his true calling: working with young children. He embraced his role at the Keene YMCA Daycare with pride and love for five years, until his health issues made it not possible to continue.
Above all, Larry cherished his family. Particularly his grandchildren were the heart of his world, filling his days with laughter, stories, and joy.
Larry is survived by his four daughters Charissa, Willow, Olivia, and Louisa; stepdaughter Oka; siblings Lee, David, and Liz; and his four beloved grandchildren Jaeden, Maya, Traevon, and London. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved their kind uncle.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 1PM to 3PM at Cheshire Family Funeral Home, 44 Maple Ave, Keene, NH. All are welcome to come celebrate Larry's life!
If you would like to honor Larry through a donation to the Keene YMCA, it would be meaningful to his family, as being there for the young people he worked with was extremely important and rewarding to him in his recent years.
Services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Home, Chapel, and Crematories. www.cheshirefamilyfh.com.
